Eating Clean Every Week
Aug. 26, 2018Leave a comment
After a night of ultimate gluttony, I always make sure to eat as clean as possible the next day. Also, the day after the next. This week is going to be a healthy and sweet week (literally). 😁 I picked up a container full of dates for my healthy green smoothies. Many people are not too enthusiastic over dates due to its high sugar content. Me? Eh. It’s all-natural. It’s fruit. Fruit has sugar in it. I purchased Natural Delights Medjool Dates. They are Non-GMO and American Heart Association Certified.
Let’s take a look at the nutrition of these particular dates.
- 140 calories per serving (2 dates)
- Total Fat: 0 g (Saturated Fat: 0 g)
- Cholesterol: 0 mg
- Sodium: 0 mg
- Total Carbohydrate: 33 g
- Dietary Fiber: 4 g
- Sugars: 30 g
- Protein: 1 g
- 2% Calcium
- 2% Iron
- 6% Potassium
By looking at the nutrition facts, these dates do contain a high amount of sugar. A total of 30 grams of sugar! No added sugars. Now, that is an enormous amount of sugar for a serving of dates even if it’s natural. A serving is only two whole dates. Two whole dates provide a total of 140 calories. Wow! Dates are, as you can see, a dense food. When incorporated into your diet, watch the servings and calories. You actually don’t need that many dates to sweeten smoothies and shakes. Dates can also be used in homemade granola and protein bars. Have you done that before? They are awesome at that! A great fruit for baking! From my marathon days, I’ve eaten plenty of dates before a long run or workout. I’ve knocked out 30+ miles in a single run session! Dates truly do give an amazing energy boost in an instant! Did anyone share the same experience as me? Do you like dates? Yes? No? Share your thoughts! Leave a comment!
Here are 10 Benefits of eating Dates!

So, what do you think about dates now? Changed your mind? I approve of them! 👌
My Leafy Greens for the Week!
I’m running low on vegetables for my healthy green smoothies. I’ve been doing two handfuls instead of one (still). I purchased the same brand in Spring Mix. You can read more about them right here. I like them. Spinach was good, but I’m more in favor of the light, delectable mixture of leafy greens, which also includes a little bit of spinach.
Yay for larger container of greens! It feels great to eat healthy! Feels good inside and out!
- 80% Vitamin A
- 4% Calcium (from greeeenss!!)
- 45% Vitamin K
- 20% Manganese
- 8% Vitamin C
- 4% Iron
- 15% Folate
- Of course, 380 mg of Potassium! 😊
I chose Blackberries.
Blackberries are not my favorite berries as I mentioned here. When they’re on sale, I do pick some up. They still provide a countless amount of nutrition just like other fruits. It’s not bad to incorporate them into my diet when I can. Today, I only picked up one case. I still have some strawberries leftover from last week. I need to finish those up STAT! Do you like blackberries?
Lastly, them BANANAS!
Here are my precious bananas for the week. I’m not sure how many times I should take pictures of bananas, since I do purchase them weekly. I really don’t get tired of them. Ever. They are so cool. I think they’re slowly becoming my favorite fruit. My favorite fruit is the apple as I mentioned here. I am falling in love with bananas. They are so versatile. You can make scrumptious banana bread with them. Blend them into green smoothies and protein shakes. Eat them alone as a snack. They are ultra portable for work and school. You can bring them on fun hikes. Lastly, they are under a dollar for a pound! Who doesn’t like that? So, what do you think about bananas? Possibly the best fruit out there? In my opinion, yes, indeed they are.
That’s my produce for the week! What do you buy on a weekly basis? What are your staples? Sharing is caring. 🙂
