Exploring Hawaii

What is North Shore?

You’ve already been introduced to parts of the North Shore in Hawaii — Waimea Bay and Laniakea Beach. But what is the North Shore exactly? The North Shore is a laid-back beach town at the northernmost point of Oahu (see map below). Think gorgeous beautiful beaches, gigantic untamed waves, and professional surfing!

Location:

North Shore. Oahu. Hawaii. Hale’iwa is the most popular North Shore town.

Let’s explore the North Shore!

I love this picture. Peaceful, quietness, in the middle of nowhere.

It wasn't sunny but gloomy and rainy.

There’s lots of food trucks and shaved ice here, so off we went to find Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck! Not for me, of course. 😋

Where is Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck located?

Here’s a map. Get it? Got it? Good. Let’s go find that Shrimp Truck!

I’m feeling that laid-back beach, surfer atmosphere. It’s a whole different environment compared to the touristy Waikiki. I enjoyed my time here. Let’s come back when the sun is out. I want to feel the sunshine on my face on the North Shore. 🌞

Goodbye North Shore *waves*

Rise and shine! 😀 I began my morning at KCC Farmer’s Market! I came here to explore and have breakfast, especially after last night’s small meal. More like snacks!

What does KCC stand for? Where is it located?

KCC stands for Kapi’olani Community College. The farmer’s market is located near this college, in the parking lot area.

How to get there? Where to park?

You can take the bus, drive, lyft, uber, etc. I drove to the farmer’s market. They have a parking lot (Parking Lot C) where you can park your vehicle. Come early! It gets packed fast! Parking is free.

Is there an entrance fee?

No.

Why I love Farmer’s Markets!

I’m madly in love with farmer’s markets and this is why! I love shopping for fresh fruits and vegetables from local producers. The produce is much fresher in comparison to store bought produce! I love the outdoorsy atmosphere. I enjoy walking around and visiting each vendor! It’s so much fun!

Here I am, at KCC Farmer’s Market!

Let’s go find food. 🙂

I had the Acai Bowl. A typical Acai Bowl consists of acai puree or sorbet as the base. The base of this particular Acai Bowl was puree. Granola is added for that crunch. The bowl is topped off with fruit, such as blueberries, bananas, and strawberries. Lastly, drizzled with honey. For me, I told them to hold the honey. Honey isn’t vegan.

Breakfast: Acai Bowl with Bananas, Strawberries, Blueberries! No honey.

On the other hand, my travel buddy had the Garlic Shrimp Scampi. As you can see, we have different dietary preferences.

Where to eat?

Tables and chairs are available at the vendors, but very few. It fills up quick. They have grassy areas and curbs to sit down and eat. You can watch little birdies run around while you enjoy your meal. 🙂

Cute little birdies.

What I brought home with me!

I left the farmer’s market with a bag of carrots, cherry tomatoes, and rambutan. Rambutan is a tropical fruit that is native to the Malay-Indonesian region and other parts of Southeast Asia. It is red, plum-sized with soft spines all-over. Don’t worry, they’re not that scary and are edible. Have you tried them before?
