I talked about supplements yesterday. What about protein supplements? Am I taking protein supplements???

Well…

I have two tubs of protein powder sitting around. The thing is, I haven’t touched them since. I try to. I don’t know. I prefer to eat actual food over taking protein supplements. I do like protein snacks, such as cookies and especially bars. Those fit in my meal plans quite nicely. But, protein powders are last on my list. I used to love them, by the way. 😋 Even though I haven’t been using protein powders for months. I’m very happy that none of my protein powders have expired yet. 👍

As you can see from the photo, I have Trader Joe’s Organic Pea Protein Powder (Vanilla) and Orgain Organic Protein Powder (Creamy Chocolate Fudge). With Trader Joe’s Organic Pea Protein Powder, the reason why I haven’t been using it is because it tastes quite awful. It just doesn’t taste good to me at all. It doesn’t matter what I put in my protein shake. I don’t like the taste of it. What I like about it is the amino acid profile. On the other hand, Orgain isn’t too bad, which I’m leaning towards to using more often.

I’m trying to get back in shape again, so I think it’s about time to utilize these protein powders. I’m not lacking protein or anything like that as a vegetarian. I get enough protein in a day. But, protein does seem to keep me fuller much longer throughout the day. I have these protein powders. Why not use them instead of wasting them??!! So let’s begin this transformation! Hemp seeds are my absolute favorite! I use Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts every single day of the week! They are packed with nutrition that’s simply unbeatable! Some examples are zinc, manganese, and magnesium. It’s also a great source of protein compared to chia and flax. I’ve been loving my flax! I use Trader Joe’s Organic Flaxseed Meal every day in my bowl of oatmeal. I’m not a big fan of adding flax into my protein shakes though. I prefer chia seeds and hemp seeds instead. I would highly recommend adding flax along with chia seed and hemp seed into your diet! It’s a good source of iron, fiber, and rich in phytonutrients. Even though I prefer Trader Joe’s Organic Pea Protein Unsweetened more, Trader Joe’s Organic Pea Protein Vanilla isn’t too bad. It works just as well as the Unsweetened. I think it’s merely a preference. Do you want a vanilla flavored protein supplement, or do you want an unsweetened protein supplement? It’s up to you. I will still use the Vanilla until I’m out, but I will purchase the Unsweetened again next time I’m at Trader Joe’s. I want to keep my ingredients to a minimum with zero added sugars.

Trader Joe’s Raw Creamy Almond Butter has been treating me well. I’m beginning to enjoy it more than the crunchy nut butters. I said it! I may be a convert soon! 😜 The raw creamy almond butter is much easier to incorporate into my foods and drinks. For example, I sometimes add a tablespoon of nut butter into my oatmeal. The creamy nut butter blends in smoothly with little effort. Also, when I add it into my protein shakes, it works just as well. It blends in beautifully. I love it. I’m considering trying out other creamy nut butters first before I purchase another crunchy. How about you? Which do you prefer? Creamy or crunchy?

#5. Testa Omega-3 Algae Oil DHA + EPA:

In about a week, I’ve been using Testa Omega-3 Algae Oil DHA + EPA for 1 month. So far, they’ve been convenient. I stash them in my bag and take 1 softgel right before my meal with a glass of water. I make sure I drink loads of water! 😁 Ever since I’ve included an omega-3 supplement in my diet, I’ve noticed that my nails are getting stronger and tougher. They seem to grow much faster than before! I have to clip them on a weekly basis now. Wow, it’s awesome to notice results with small changes such as taking an omega-3 supplement!
