Primer & Foundation Review

Here’s my review on the elf Flawless Finish Foundation with elf Brightening Lavender Face Primer. ๐Ÿ™‚ Did it work? Did it help prolong my foundation? Did it brighten my skin up? Let’s find out!

Shade: The color of the foundation was essentially the same with and without the primer. It did not turn orange on me! Good, good.

Texture: With the primer, it was much easier to apply and blend the foundation into my skin. It went on silky smooth. It made a huge difference in the texture of the foundation. It felt softer on my skin.

Finish: The primer helped to diminish sebum in my skin. I have very oily skin. So, primer + liquid foundation + powder foundation, the overall finish of my face makeup became matte instead of semi-matte.

Coverage: Coverage is still light-moderate. Definitely not full coverage. If you have active acne or dark spots, grab a concealer!

Breakouts?: No breakouts yet. If it stays this way, I’m a happy camper. ๐Ÿ™‚

Final Thoughts: Once again, I’m liking this liquid foundation. For the price, it’s an awesome steal! No wonder why it’s one of the top selling foundations in the elf cosmetics line. It’s affordable and works great! I loved how the primer felt silky smooth on my skin, but it didn’t make the color of my foundation last longer. It did help with oily skin. Also, I didn’t notice any brightening effects. It’s supposed to make the skin look less sallow. That’s why the product is purple. At the moment, I’m unsure if I like it or not, but I’ll keep using it. I might change my mind overtime. In conclusion, yes to the foundation. Still on the fence about the primer.

I hope everyone enjoyed my follow up on elf Flawless Finish Foundation. Thank you for reading!!

081719 UPDATE: Hereโ€™s a new update after posting an update/review two days earlier. Here are honest thoughts on the primer. So I started to notice a change in my skin. I want to put it out there before I say anything else that I love how the primer feels on my skin. Silky, soft, and smooth. But, the way it felt on my skin did not reflect how it looked on my skin with the liquid foundation. Hereโ€™s a quick breakdown on what went on:

  1. Applying primer – Skin feels silky with primer on
  2. Applying foundation – Skin looks good with liquid foundation on. Everything looks perfect on the skin.
  3. 30 minutes to 1 hour goes by – Skin starts looking blotchy and has uneven coloring of liquid foundation. Skin looks drier than before. Wrinkles are accentuated due to dryness.
  4. Didn’t prolong the shade of the liquid foundation
  5. Didn’t make liquid foundation stick better to the skin
  6. Didn’t brighten my skin up
  7. Developed bumps (under the brow, forehead, chin) on my face and blackheads on the nose (some larger acne too)

Whew! That is my experience with elf’s primer. I’m very disappointed that it didn’t work out. I’m done with using it and moving onto something else. This is a warning to acne-prone skin people! Use at your own risk.

081919 UPDATE: I’ve been free of elf’s primer. Sad to say that I can’t use the primer on my skin anymore. I really wanted it to work, but it didn’t. Good news, my skin is clearing up. ๐Ÿ™‚ The acne bumps are vanishing…

082819 UPDATE: I moved onto other makeup primers…

Love, Jen
