An Update on My Skin Care Routine!
Hey, I’m back! 😊
So I’ve been experimenting with my skin care products. Trying to see what works on my skin or not. For me, my top priority is acne. I’ve decided to start using benzoyl peroxide more consistently again. Applying it on my troubled areas, which is almost everywhere, haha. Along with benzoyl peroxide, I picked up using Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Face Cream again. What I’m doing is applying the face cream first then applying benzoyl peroxide afterwards. This should (hopefully) help prevent my skin from drying out. I started using Eucerin again because it’s one of the moisturizers/cream I have, and I didn’t want to purchase a new one. Let’s see if it helps to prevent my skin from drying out from BP first. But I’ve noticed that after using BP, my skin definitely looks so much cleaner and pores are smaller. It simply just works on my breakout-prone skin compared to retinoids. I’ve been trying to make retinoids work for a few years now. And the results have been mediocre/minimal results. All I know is that I was still breaking out while using tret. I needed to try something different to fight acne. I was getting really tired of the breakouts. With breakouts comes along with acne marks that take centuries to go away. I’m exaggerating a little bit, but the point is that they take forever to go away.
Vitamin C Products
I’ve moved my vitamin c serums/products to mornings only, since there’s no point on using them with BP. BP counteracts with vitamin c. I wasn’t seeing any major improvements when using vitamin c twice a day anyways. Currently, my favorite vitamin c product is Melano CC Vitamin C Essence. It’s the most portable and doesn’t break my skin out. It also absorbs into the skin very well. Leaves my skin feeling slightly moisturized without clogging my pores. As for results, I think I’ll just keep using it just because. I haven’t found a vitamin c product better than this one yet. The one from The Ordinary (Ascorbic Acid 8% Alpha Arbutin 2%) is too oily. It made me breakout when I tried using it in the morning. I can only use it at night but with limited use. If I use it too often, my skin starts to breakout. It’s awesome at moisturizing and improving skin texture but since I have oily skin, it’s a no-go. Also, it makes my skin appear darker. Maybe it oxidized on my skin. The Ordinary 100% L-Ascorbic Acid Powder hasn’t done much for my skin. I also dislike bringing it with me when travelling. I’m not going to purchase it again.
Face Wash
I haven’t talked about what I use to wash my face. I don’t use PanOxyl anymore. That brand never worked well on my skin. It was such a waste of time. I really wanted it to work, but it never did. My skin prefers BP directly and leaving it on overnight to take effect. I noticed a huge difference between using BP as a face wash and using it as a leave-on treatment. Leaving BP on my skin works soooo much better! So, I stopped using PanOxyl many months ago. I also stopped using Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Face Wash too. I found something better, more effective, and less expensive for everyday use. It’s similar to Trader Joe’s. I was really happy that I found something that was super affordable. It comes in a big bottle too. I don’t have it with me right now, but I can’t wait to share it with everyone. Stay tuned in my next post to see what the product is! 😊
Taking a break from chemical exfoliants
I’ve also taken a break from chemical exfoliants like glycolic acid, lactic acid, and mendalic acid. If you missed out on my posts on these products, check them out here:

I haven’t made an update on these products, but it’s been more than a few months of using them, and they haven’t helped with my acne. Obviously, since I’m back to using benzoyl peroxide. I didn’t notice much improvement in my skin while using them. I still developed blemishes, blackheads, and cysts while using them. I wished they worked, but it is what it is. Since I’m taking a break from them, it doesn’t really matter at this point. I’ll just move forward with treating my skin with BP and see where it takes me. My skin needs a break from chemical exfoliants anyways. My skin is looks really flaky and needs to heal in the meantime.
Moisturizing my skin 🙂
I’m babying my skin and keeping it moisturized but not to the extreme. I’m mainly using Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Face Cream only at night when I use BP. The only moisturizers I can use are the lightweight gels without them breaking me out. It’s like my skin dislikes heavy creams and moisturizers. At this point, I’ve given up on using thicker, richer, moisturizing creams on my face or at least trying to find one that works. I haven’t had much luck finding a good one. Overall, my skin actually looks clearer this way too. You can check out some of my past reviews on moisturizers right here if you missed out on them…
