My Makeup Routine

I started wearing makeup again yesterday. It was tough. It took a while for my skin to get used to it. My eyes were so swollen and puffy-looking. It was LOL. 😂 Today, I tried putting on makeup again. The results were much better. I was able to make my face makeup look ‘skin-like’. Since my skin is 100% clear and smooth, it looked pretty good. I’m not complimenting myself. I’m just really ecstatic that my acne is gone. Anyone that has suffered from acne knows this feeling. Finally, I can feel comfortable in my own skin and not feel self-conscious.

So what makeup do I use? I don’t use anything special, but here’s my makeup routine.

Foundation:

I use BB Cream. I use Dr Jart+ Silver Label Rejuvenating BB Cream. It doesn’t match my skin tone perfectly, but it doesn’t break me out. The coverage is rather poor. If you have active acne, you won’t be able to cover imperfections at all. It’ll just slide right off. For me, I rather use makeup that doesn’t break me out even if the color is a little off. I’ve suffered from acne for too long to care. I’ve tried tons of other BB Creams. This is the only one that hasn’t caused me any issues. I think I’m done searching for the perfect foundation. I think, haha.

Makeup Primers:

I have a bunch of makeup primers, but I only use them on special occasions. Or, when I want my makeup to look extra silky and smooth. Here are the makeup primers I have…

I usually use the elf Poreless Putty Primer when I want my makeup to look extra, extra perfect. I use the NYX BB Cream Beauty Balm for my everyday makeup. I don’t use the NYX Studio Perfect Photo-Loving Primer. It’s too oily and greasy. It breaks me out.

Powder Foundation:

I do have a powder foundation. It’s Sephora Matte Perfection Powder Foundation (shown below). I haven’t been using it lately. Maybe I’ll start. I usually just apply BB Cream, and that’s it. I don’t need an extra layer of foundation on my skin everyday. Perhaps for those special days.

Concealer:

Sephora Makeup
Sephora Makeup

Sephora Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer

This is probably my favorite concealer by far. It doesn’t offer high coverage. But for some reason, it works well on my skin. It brightens up my dark under eye circles. I also use it if I have other imperfections or spots to cover. It’s a good concealer and skin brightener in one.

Eyeliner:

elf Precision Liquid Eyeliner in Black
elf Precision Liquid Eyeliner in Black

Any eyeliner will do. I don’t have a favorite. I haven’t truly encountered an eyeliner that is to die for. They all work the same to me. I seem to make them all work regardless of price. I tend to choose liquid eyeliners over pencil/gel eyeliners. I like clean lines that intensifies the eyes. 🙂 I’ve been using liquid eyeliners for so many years. Above, I have elf Precision Liquid Eyeliner in Black. This isn’t the best eyeliner. It peels if I go over it with other makeup products. Somehow I make it work. I won’t repurchase though, lol.

Eyeshadows/Blushes:

Elf St Lucia Blush Bronzer
Elf St Lucia Blush Bronzer

As a true non-makeup addict (serious), I use whatever I have. I hardly ever purchase new eyeshadows and blushes. I use the same shit day in and out until I hit the pan. 🤣 I’m not even joking. LOL. I make sure I sanitize my eyeshadows and blushes after use.

Mascara:

NYX Cosmetics Mascara, Lip Primer, Face Primer
NYX Worth the Hype Mascara

NYX Worth the Hype Mascara

This mascara is good. I don’t think it’s the best, but I’ll stick to it for now since it works. I’ll probably try out other mascaras after I finish the whole tube. I don’t have a favorite mascara either. Any mascara that doesn’t make my lashes appear clumpy, runs is OK in my book.

That’s all the makeup I use for the everyday look. I try to go makeup free as much as possible. 🙂 I prefer to keep my makeup as natural as possible after having clear skin. 🙂 Covering my skin with makeup isn’t a good idea to keep my skin clear. Clear Skin = Clean Skin. 😊

I hope you enjoyed this. 😀

Foundations: What works & What doesn’t

It’s time for me to make an update on my face makeup — liquid foundations. I’ve gone through different brands of foundations in the past months, and this is what I think about them.

Here’s a roundup of what I have. They are not in any particular order.

  1. elf Flawless Finish Foundation
  2. elf Acne Fighting Foundation
  3. Milani Conceal + Perfect Foundation
  4. Sephora Matte Perfection Foundation
  5. Dr G Perfect Pore Cover BB SPF PA++
  6. Dr Jart+ Silver Label Rejuvenating BB Cream

1. elf Flawless Finish Foundation

elf Flawless Finish Foundation was the first liquid foundation I chose when I ventured out into ‘liquid foundations’. When I first used it, I liked it. It was light and airy on the skin. It didn’t provide much coverage though. The lasting power was poor. I would have to apply constantly. Since it was the first and only liquid foundation I purchased, I loved it, but I stopping liking it due to the reasons stated above — poor coverage and lasting power. I tried it with a makeup primer and that didn’t help either. It’s an inexpensive liquid foundation. That’s all there is to it. If you have flawless skin, this could work for you. If you have flawless skin, why wear foundation in the first place?

2. elf Acne Fighting Foundation

After elf Flawless Finish Foundation, I tried the elf Acne Fighting Foundation due to its acne fighting ingredients — salicylic acid, witch hazel, camphor, tea tree, and aloe. So what’s great about this foundation? It provides full coverage, controls oil, dries acne spots out without leaving the skin feeling + looking dry, and is inexpensive. The bad? There isn’t too many shades to choose from. I have the lightest shade, and it’s too dark on my skin. For me, that was the only drawback. It makes me look like an oompa loompa. That is why I won’t purchase it again. If you have acne and can find a shade that matches your complexion, go for it!

3. Milani Conceal + Perfect Foundation

Milani Conceal + Perfect Foundation was my HG foundation for a while after moving away from BB Creams. When I started to use it, it was different. I liked it in the beginning. But, I stopped using it on my skin. This is what I think about it.

It’s supposed to be full coverage, but I didn’t think it really was. I had to apply extra layers on my skin to achieve full coverage. I liked the thin-like texture of this foundation though. It makes my skin look natural. It also has tons of shades to choose from. I was lucky enough to find a couple of shades that worked for me — Porcelain and Ivory. Something that bothered me about this foundation was the fragrance. I thought I could get pass it, but it started to creep up on me as the days went by. I’m not sure if I’ll buy it again or not. Meh.

4. Sephora Matte Perfection Foundation

I loved Sephora Matte Perfection Foundation when I used it the first few times. It was perfect. The shade, coverage, how it felt, how it looked on my skin. I fell in love. As I continued to use it, it dried my skin out pretty bad. I started to get breakouts too. I don’t know what happened. It was great. I guess things change, and that’s what it is. I haven’t touched this foundation since. This is coming from someone with oily skin. Since it dried out my skin to the extreme, I avoided using it around my eyes. It accentuated every fine line and wrinkle. This foundation is a no-go for me. I won’t ever purchase it again.

5. Dr G Perfect Pore Cover BB SPF PA++

Dr G Perfect Pore Cover BB Cream

I bought Dr G Perfect Pore Cover BB Cream because I wanted to venture out to other BB Creams. This was my first choice. I was impressed the first couple of times of using it. It made my skin look and feel silky smooth. It brightened my skin. Sadly, my skin started to get very oily and breakouts occurred. This BB Cream feels silicone-like. It’s just too much for my skin type. It felt like plastic wrap on my face. Also, the shade is too dark on my skin. I wouldn’t buy it again. 6. Dr Jart+ Silver Label Rejuvenating BB Cream

Dr Jart Rejuvenating Beauty Balm

So far, for many years, Dr Jart+ Silver Label Rejuvenating BB Cream is the only BB Cream that works for me. The only deal breaker is that the shade is a tad dark on my skin. This is the only BB Cream that hasn’t caused my skin to break out even when it ends up looking oily (lol). I’m sticking to it from now on. It works for my skin type. I don’t want to deal with random acne and all of that stuff anymore. This BB Cream is definitely a staple when I wear makeup. That’s right! I saved the best for last. 🙂
