Review: First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream

I was searching for a new moisturizer to help with dry, flaky, parched skin. This cream was constantly mentioned. It had good reviews too. I thought I would give it a try even after scanning the ingredients. It contains some comedogenic ingredients that I’ve had issues with before. But, I ignored it all and picked up a few bottles. They were on sale, hehe. The purpose of this product is to provide instant and long-term hydration for dry, distressed skin and eczema. It contains colloidal oatmeal, which is a skin protectant that helps to relieve itching caused by eczema, rashes, and other skin conditions. Shea butter to moisturize and protect the skin barrier with vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids. Allantoin to calm and soothe the skin. It’s vegan, cruelty-free, and gluten-free. Since the weather is colder and cooler, and I’ve been dealing with dry skin, this seemed like the type of product that could help with dry, itchy skin. Also, as I mentioned earlier, it had a ton of good reviews. Some even labeled it as their HG. Let’s see if this cream works or not. Here’s my experience with this product.

My Experience with First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream:

Texture & Application

The product is a cream. It feels soft, smooth, and creamy. When applied to the face, I didn’t apply it like my other moisturizers. It was a little difficult to spread across the face. What I did was place dots of the cream all over my face then gently pat it into the skin. The cream blends into the skin well. But only if it’s not used with other moisturizers. I tried using it with another moisturizer (underneath). The First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream started pilling. When I used it alone without any other moisturizer, it blended into the skin easily, no pilling. Even though the product blends into the skin well, it doesn’t fully absorb. It sits on top of the skin. I feel like there was a layer of product that’s sitting on top of my skin the whole night. It reminded me of CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. They feel very similar on the skin. They both sit on top of the skin.

Helps with dryness and flaky skin.

This cream helps with dry, cracked, flaky skin. Even wounded skin. I noticed that some parts of my face was over-exfoliated. After a day of using this cream, my skin felt a little better. The over-exfoliated parts of my face looked like it healed and peeled off. It wasn’t as dry anymore or reddish in color. It soothed my skin and helped to repair it.

A lightweight rich cream.

This is actually a rich cream even though it feels lightweight when applied and after it (somewhat) absorbs into the skin. My skin doesn’t feel like it has moisturizer on even though it’s sitting on top of my skin. It’s a different feeling. The cream feels and looks matte on my face. It doesn’t leave my skin looking glowy, shiny, or oily. The product feels very thin on the skin and a little goes a long way. I only used a little bit of product for my whole face and neck, chest. That amount of product was able to keep my skin from drying out and soothed it.

Did it clog my pores?

I only used this cream for 1 day and 6 hours on my face (nightly use). It should’ve been only one day. The first day, I noticed some clogged pores all over my oily t-zone. I didn’t think it was the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream clogging my pores. I kept using it the next night. But, I eventually washed it off that same night because I noticed tons of blackheads out of nowhere. I developed pimples on my forehead, upper lip, chin, and a bunch of blackheads on my oily t-zone (especially my nose). The amount of blackheads I saw were disturbing. I washed the product off immediately and opted for my original moisturizer. The next morning, my skin looked much better. No new blackheads. I was going to leave First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream for the second night but something didn’t feel right. I was clearly breaking out from the cream. I’m glad I pulled the plug right before it got even worse than what I went through. Whew! If you have oily, acne-prone skin, do a patch test first. This product felt very occlusive on my skin (sits on top of the skin type of feeling). It was just bad for my skin.

It contains Eucalyptus globulus leaf oil.

The last ingredient in this product is eucalyptus. *pause* Why??!! On the bottle, it says that this product is safe for sensitive skin. If you have sensitive skin, do a patch test. I don’t have sensitive skin, but my skin has been sensitized by my acne products. When I applied this cream to my face, I can feel my face tingling and slightly burning. It’s the eucalyptus. The tingling/burning sensation fades away after a while, but why bother with this ingredient. I can’t imagine someone with sensitive skin using this. But everyone is different. I know my skin didn’t like it.

Final Thoughts

Unfortunately, the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream didn’t work for me. I really wanted to like it, since I was searching for a new moisturizer. I picked my bottles up when they were on sale. The retail price is $46 each. Thank goodness I didn’t pay that much for it. Because it was not worth it at all. I mean, it helped with dry, parched skin that’s irritated, but it ended up clogging my pores and giving me tons of blackheads. My nose looked like a strawberry after I used it for a day and 6 hours (lol). It made my acne 10x worse than the actual dryness itself. What’s the point of moisturizing when it causes blemishes? Ugh! And eucalyptus? I should’ve listened to the very few negative reviews I saw. But, in my mind, I just wanted to try it out for myself, haha. Now I’m left with full bottles of this cream that I can’t use on my face. I’ll use the rest of it on my body or as a hand cream instead. My hands are pretty crusty and dry right now due to the dry, cool weather. Anything helps. I won’t repurchase First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream again even if it was on sale. I feel that the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream works the same way without the eucalyptus. I’ve been using my last jar of CeraVe as my body cream.

Let’s talk about the comedogenic ingredients. This is something I ignored (shouldn’t have) thinking that it could work for me. Here are the ingredients that popped out when I was looking at the ingredients list. They are Glyceryl Stearate SE, Shea Butter, and Squalane. I’ve always avoided products with Glyceryl Stearate SE. This particular ingredient has always clogged my pores. Don’t mistake this ingredient with Glyceryl Stearate. Glyceryl Stearate SE can cause acne issues if you’re acne-prone. At least it did on my skin. Shea Butter is another culprit. I know Shea Butter and my skin don’t go well together, especially for the face. I had this issue with another product not so long ago. Squalane is a hit or miss on my skin. I’m currently using a moisturizer (Vanicream Daily Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin) with squalane, and it seems like it’s working better on my skin than the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. I don’t think it’s entirely squalane’s fault in clogging my pores. I think it’s the Glyceryl Stearate SE and Shea Butter in combination with squalane that made my skin break out in acne. On top of that, Eucalyptus just adds into the mix and causes irritation.

I was hoping that the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream was one of those products that could work since it costs more, could possibly have higher quality ingredients. This cream is 46 bucks. It should be good, right? It’s also a highly raved product! Nope, nope, nope, I was wrong. I developed terrible acne from this cream. I wouldn’t recommend this product to anyone that is prone to clogged pores. Save your 46 dollars and spend it on something else. There are better moisturizers out there that are less expensive than this cream. I’m not a huge fan of the texture of the product either. It’s odd that I don’t see that many negative reviews on this product. Here is one, lol.

My Acne Journey: 6 MONTHS!!! ๐ŸŽ‰

Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen Stick Sensitive SPF 50

It’s been 6 MONTHS on this acne journey! Even though I’ve been on this acne journey for 6 months, I’m going to be counting the days when I started to use tret daily (at least try to). I’m nearing 3 weeks soon! Today marks 19 DAYS!! I’ve decreased from the highest dose to the lowest so I can use it daily. I would stick to the highest dose, but I got tired of my skin peeling constantly. Peeling skin isn’t a bad thing, but while my skin was peeling, it didn’t help much with acne. There could be many possibilities why it didn’t work during that time. Maybe it’s because I was using that pore-clogging moisturizer (Vanicream Daily Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin). That’s one of the products that ruined my progress plus other skin care products that I don’t use anymore. It’s just cleanse, treat, and sunscreen for me. I think what else ruined my acne progress was my past vegan diet (here’s a new update!). My skin had a difficult time healing. Now, my skin heals quickly if there’s a wound. Thanks to the high quality protein from meat. ๐Ÿ– It was a combination of things in my life. Why not just use the high dose without a moisturizer now?? I honestly don’t feel like switching right now. I’m already using what works. Low dose of tret is definitely working. I can see visible results. It took time to get there, but it’s finally working. Patience is key at this point.

The Purge & Results.

My skin purged and peeled twice this week. I was pretty ecstatic about it because that’s a sign that tret is working for my acne. I could feel a thick layer of dead skin sitting on my face. It felt so gross, but it was extremely satisfying to remove by the end of the day, lol. Once the dead skin came off, I noticed breakouts. ๐Ÿ˜’ It sucks, but it’s bound to happen. Cell turnover and new skin cells. I’m not happy with the new breakouts but at least I know it’s doing something. So far, I’ve experienced 3 cysts that randomly popped up out of nowhere. They healed much faster instead of lingering on for weeks. I’ve also had smaller pimples. The pimples that have been living underneath my skin for several months end! I’ve been trying to zap them with other acne treatments like salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide to no avail. Now, they are finally out! I noticed some blackheads too. I made a mistake of extracting some of the blackheads and that pressure created red marks in my skin. Technically, I ripped my skin off. ๐Ÿ˜“ Note to self, don’t ever do this again even if it’s tempting. I thought the blackheads were from my sunscreen. It’s actually from the tret purge. The rest of the blackheads loosened up and fell out of my pores the next day (woohoo! but yuck?). Those red marks faded away at the end of the week too. Thankfully.

Most of the breakouts I experienced this week have healed on its own, except for one cyst, but it’s shrinking quickly. I noticed that cyst just a day ago, so that’s why it’s still hanging out on my face. Overall, my skin looks softer and smoother. It looks way better now (3 weeks) compared to when I started. It also looks better compared to when I was on the highest dose. I went through a short phase of irritation (burning, red/pink skin, some dryness). Now those signs of irritation have lessened quite a bit. There’s some irritation, but I can get by without problems arising. My skin is just peeling and unclogging pores now with every day use. I was applying my bb cream and was super impressed that my bb cream just glides over my skin smoothly. It looked sooo smooth! Like what my skin used to look like when it was fully clear! I’m very ecstatic with the results so far! Can’t wait to see further improvements within the next few weeks! By the way, I stopped using bha since I don’t need it right now. I’ll use it whenever my skin needs it. I don’t want to dry my skin out when I’m not using a moisturizer. All of a sudden I had the urge to look for one, but I haven’t found one that I think would suit my skin. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ I’m still moisturizer-free.

Some products I love this week…

Blue Lizard Sunscreen Stick Sensitive:

This wasn’t the type of sunscreen for the summer, but it’s working for me in the winter. I’m not using it on my face. It contains shea butter, coconut oil, candelilla wax, sunflower seed oil, sunflower seed wax, castor oil, jojoba seed oil, and even cocoa butter. This sunscreen is a haven for clogged pores. So! I used it around my eyes, neck, and ears. It’s too heavy and oily for me for the back of the hands. I love using this product on my neck. It helps to moisturize and protect that part of my skin from harmful UV rays. Works great during the cooler, colder months!

CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Face Sheer Tint:

I have so many good things to say about this sunscreen. I’m on my second tube, and I’m almost running low! Thank goodness I stocked up on this sunscreen. I can’t run out. I won’t. As long as it’s available. This sunscreen is tinted and makes it very easy to apply mineral sunscreen (usually leaves a white cast behind). This sunscreen just blends into the skin well, leaves the skin moisturized (hasn’t clogged my pores yet!), and makes my skin look super soft and dewy. It helps to brighten my skin too with niacinamide. The only thing I would change about this sunscreen so far would be the SPF. I still wish it was SPF 50+!!

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream

Hi everyone. ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s been 5 months and 3 weeks on this acne journey. I can’t believe it’s been this long on this journey! I’m pushing forward each day!

So I took a 3 day break from my acne treatment this week. I tried to increase the dose and it all backfired, lol. In other words, I burned my face. During this break, I tried iUNIK Beta-Glucan Power Moisture Serum to hydrate and heal my skin. You can read about my experience by clicking on the link. From my experience with this product, I won’t be continuing on with it. It made my skin worse. It seems like my skin prefers a plain, bland, minimal skin care routine. I just went back to my normal daily skin care routine. On my rest days (if there’s any), I just leave my skin alone. I use nothing on my skin at night. By the end of the week, the breakouts shrunk in size. My skin felt less dry. I was very disappointed with the results I got from iUNIK. I’m never using it ever again. I can’t wait to finish it (on my body) and toss it out. I’m not sure how this product has positive reviews. It’s not worth the money. No wonder why I was breaking out so much back then. It was a combination of things plus this product and most likely other products.

After another week of using Olay Regenerist Hyaluronic + Peptide 24 Revitalizing Facial Cleanser. My skin doesn’t feel dry from using this facial cleanser anymore. My skin is finally used to it. But, I’m still on the look out for a new facial cleanser. Still.

I stopped using bha during the break, and I was using it 1-2 times a week, but I’ve bumped up my use of the product this week. I’m dealing with random blackheads popping up out of nowhere. I wonder if it has to do with my sunscreens. Some of them feel sticky, tacky, and overly moisturizing. My skin does not need that much moisture. Just enough. Reapplying sunscreen really leaves my skin feeling heavy sometimes. I’ll keep using bha and see what happens to my skin. Hopefully the blackheads are going to clear up. If not, I’ll have to find something else to get rid of these blackheads.

More products I tried this week!

Neutrogena Visibly Even Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30:

I still haven’t seen this product being sold anywhere. I still have 2 bottles of this sunscreen left. After I finished Vanicream Mineral Facial Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30, I started using Neutrogena Visibly Even Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30. I have to use them up so they won’t go to waste. I’m only using this sunscreen indoors. It’s not sweat or water-proof. My experience using this sunscreen wasn’t that good. I’ve used it for many years because it was the only sunscreen product that didn’t clog my pores, moisturized my skin, and brightened it. I guess it wasn’t too bad of a product. At least it didn’t clog my pores and made my complexion more even. It contains glycine soja (soybean) seed extract to help fade acne marks and brighten the skin. I’m glad I found other sunscreens that provide better protection without clogging my pores. I was pretty committed to this sunscreen. Well, once I finish the last bottles of this product, it’s done. I have no choice anyways. I think itโ€™s been discontinued. There’s also fragrance in this product. I found it pretty irritating to the skin and eyes. By the way, this is a chemical sunscreen. Hell yes! It burned my eyes. I wonder how I put up with that for so many years.

Trader Joeโ€™s Daily Facial Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40:

I finished my first bottle of Trader Joe’s Daily Facial Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 this week. The texture of the sunscreen felt very silky smooth. That’s one thing about the sunscreen that I really liked. It smoothed over my skin easily and blends into the skin very well. This sunscreen, unfortunately, burned my eyes. I can’t use it near my eyes or the skin around my eyes. I used a mineral-based sunscreen instead for the eye area when using Trader Joe’s SPF 40. It also clogged my pores once again. I noticed a few clogged pores on my chin and 2 cysts (haven’t had these in a while!) after a few days of using it. The sunscreen does contain shea butter. Perhaps that is the culprit. So, the texture and consistency of the sunscreen is very lovely. It moisturizes and smooths out the skin. It works as a makeup primer due to it smoothing the skin out. Since it breaks me out, I won’t purchase another bottle after finishing my last one. I’m not going to use the rest on my face but my body.

Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Face Lotion SPF 15:

I finished (couldn’t get the rest out of the bottle) this sunscreen in August (read more on my skin care empties). It’s November. I noticed that I still had this SPF sitting around unused because I couldn’t cut open the bottle. Yes, that’s what I do to get every last drop out. With Eucerin’s packaging, they make it difficult to get to every last drop. Finally, I was able to cut open the bottle with much difficulty. Look what’s at the bottom of the bottle? Tons of product leftover. Sheesh! This would’ve been a waste if I had just tossed the sunscreen out after the pump couldn’t dispense any product out. This is one of those products that I would never purchase again. They need to change the packaging of the product. It sucks. It infuriates me knowing that products like this exist. Terrible product.

Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Face Cream & CeraVe Moisturizing Cream:

I stopped using Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Face Cream on my face a while ago. I’ve been trying to use it up and using it as an eye cream. My facial skin didn’t like the cream, but the skin around my eyes seems to love it. The cream is fragrance-free, non-irritating, and blends into the skin effortlessly. It smooths out the eye area too. I love it! I might bring it back into my skin care routine as an eye cream (not a face cream). Another product I attempted to use as an eye cream is the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. With this cream, it didn’t work out. The cream wouldn’t blend into my skin. I just didn’t like the way it felt on my eyes. It didn’t leave my skin feeling moisturized like the Eucerin cream. CeraVe seems to work better on body. It doesn’t leave a sticky residue behind and absorbs into the skin pretty quick. On my eyes, it’s another story.

What else am I doing??

I’ve been eating pretty healthy. You can check out on my update on my health goals right here. I’ve increased my intake of vegetables after that update, haha. I’ve seen an improvement in my skin too. I’ve had less breakouts and skin just looks so much better. So it’s not just skin care I’m doing. I don’t even use that many skin care products on my face anyways. I think it’s pretty ridiculous to just rely on skin care to have healthy skin. Skin health also comes from within. I’m happy to be back on track! Also, I stopped wearing face makeup most days of the week. I didn’t see the purpose anymore. I just wanted to let my skin be. Just take care of it and not have too many makeup products on it. It’s nice to see a makeupless face.

Moving on to 6 months! Has it been this long?? ๐Ÿคฏ

Giving Up on Skin Care Products I Used to Love ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป

Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV SPF 50+ PA++++

I have two products that I had a hard time giving up on. But I finally decided to let them go once I finish whatever I have left. They are Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV SPF 50+ PA++++ (Clear) and GUERISSON 9 Complex Cream. Let’s start off with Canmake! ๐Ÿงœ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV SPF 50+ PA++++ (Clear):

I’ve been using Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV SPF 50+ PA++++ for over a year now. The sunscreen feels lightweight, gel-like, smooths over the skin, and doesn’t leave any residue behind. It absorbs into the skin quickly due to it being a gel-based sunscreen. The finish is dewy. Sometimes it made my skin look shiny like plastic. I didn’t like the finish of this sunscreen much. At first I did, but I got over it after a while. I love that this sunscreen is SPF 50+ PA++++, but this did not make a good summer sunscreen. I developed freckles and burned while using it. Maybe it’s because it’s not water or sweat-resistant. The sunscreen comes off easily. It feels skin-like (compared to most sunscreens I’ve used) and nice on the skin and all, but it doesn’t work well in sweaty, humid, hot weather. I just know that my skin burned and noticed new freckles on my face. Since the weather is cooler now, I thought it would work better. But…that’s not the case. It dried my skin out even with a moisturizer underneath. I have oily skin, and it made my skin feel extremely dry. I don’t think it’s worth it anymore. It’s not an affordable sunscreen knowing how much sunscreen I use within a single day. It comes in a 40 g tube. It’s really tiny. ๐Ÿ˜ซ As for acne, it didn’t break me out. One of the main reasons why I kept using it. But I have other sunscreens that are more affordable, accessible, and comes in larger bottles, which is better for my lifestyle. After going through numerous bottles and still finishing up what I have, I’m ready to give it up. I was really obsessed with this sunscreen at one point. I’m pretty much done with it now. I’m over it. It’s not working on my fair complexion.

GUERISSON 9 Complex Cream

GUERISSON 9 Complex Cream:

I’ve been using GUERISSON 9 Complex Cream since the beginning of this year. I’m on my 3rd jar. I still have one more jar of this product left to finish, lol. I thought I was going to keep it in my routine, but I changed my mind. So this cream feels rich, creamy, soft, and silky smooth. I loved the texture and consistency of the product when I first used it. It smooths over the facial skin nicely, but it doesn’t seem to absorb into the skin well. It sits on top of the skin. This cream ended up clogging my pores after a few days. It could be the combination of ingredients too. It contains Horse Oil/Fat, Shea Butter, Niacinamide, Snail Secretion Filtrate, Peptides, Jojoba Seed Oil, to name a few. I was hoping to find a face cream that moisturizes, but this product did a terrible job at keeping my skin moisturized. It just didn’t work. Also, I didn’t like how it has a silicone feel to it. I can swish it around on my face. How it sits on the skin is so weird (plus the breakouts!!) that I stopped using it as a face cream and started using it as a neck/chest/eye cream instead. It worked better on those areas, except as an eye cream. The cream doesn’t blend well under the eyes. I only used it as a neck and chest cream since. It’s an OK product for those areas of the skin, but I’ve finally lost interest in this product. Lastly, it comes in a lot of packaging too (see photo above). Is that even necessary? It looks pretty excessive for a cream. And I hardly ever used the spatula that was included in the container. I think I’m ready to move on to something better, new. Possibly a product that comes with less packaging material. ๐Ÿ‘€

The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG

I stopped using more products. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ I’ve been using these two products since forever. I think it’s time to let them go. They are The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG and Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. Let’s start off with The Ordinary!

The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG:

It’s been about 2 years using The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG. The purpose of this product is to reduce the appearance of eye contour pigmentation and puffiness. I thought it was working at first, but I haven’t noticed much of a change in my skin (under eyes) after another year of using it. All it did was dry my under eye area out. I still have dark under eye circles. I make sure to get enough sleep too, and I still have them, lol. Must be genetics, haha. Oh well. I only have puffy eyes once in a while, but this product didn’t do much for puffy eyes when I had them. Just like most The Ordinary skin care products, this one didn’t work for me either (2 years!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ). This is the last of The Ordinary products I have in my skin care routine. I removed all of The Ordinary products I was using. I think I’m over this brand. Most of their products are too greasy, oily for my skin type. They don’t sit well on my skin. My skin gets more oily and ends up with breakouts. I’ve been dealing with acne for so long that I wonder if The Ordinary products contributed to the clogged pores. So far, after not using any of them (along with a bunch of other skin care products), my skin has improved. With the Caffeine Solution, it was just drying even when I moisturize my eye area heavily. It tightens my under eyes and dries it out. When I stopped using it, the dryness went away. I’m going to stick to moisturizing products only for the eyes from now on. I’m over this product. It didn’t work for me.

Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence

Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence:

I stopped using Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence since I wanted a simple, basic skin care routine instead. All products that didn’t serve a purpose in my routine had to go. This was one of them. With the Snail Essence, it didn’t really hydrate my skin by much. I tried using it alone without any other skin care products, and my skin felt extremely dry. My skin started to crack. I couldn’t even smile, lol. The dryness started to hurt my face. So the essence doesn’t do well as a stand alone skin hydrator. It works better in combination with other moisturizing products. So did it do anything at all for my skin? lol. Well, I didn’t see improvements in my skin texture and hydration levels while using it. I’ve gone through several bottles too. I just didn’t see the purpose of this product anymore. It feels like I’m just wasting my money hoping that it’ll do something for my skin since it’s a snail product. Nothing’s happening and it seems like a waste of time and money. Also, another aspect of the product that I didn’t like was the packaging. This applies to other Cosrx skin care products as well, such as Cosrx Galactomyces 95 Tone Balancing Essence, Cosrx Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion (with Birch Sap), and Cosrx Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power Essence. They all come in the same type of packaging/bottle. It’s a plastic bottle with a pump. Once you reach the bottom of the bottle, it’s difficult to get the rest out. They should really change the packaging of these products. It’s extremely annoying. I feel like they did this on purpose. ๐Ÿ˜‚ So that’s another reason why I’m going to stop purchasing products that come in lousy packaging like this. They’re also very clunky to carry around and to travel with. It’s just not for me, I guess.
