2 Weeks Using The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution. My Results!

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution

It’s been 2 weeks using The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution! This week, I used glycolic acid products and benzoyl peroxide (more on this in a bit!). So, I started off the week using only glycolic acid products. Just this toner and another glycolic acid serum (read more about it by going to that link!). Glycolic acid has helped improve my skin. But, I can tell that it’s not going to clear up my skin fully. While using glycolic acid, I noticed smoother, brighter skin, and some closed comedones moving up to the surface, but it’s not getting to the source. It’s not going to be the miracle cure for my acne. I stopped using it every day. Now I’m only using it only a few times a week for exfoliation. Hopefully it’ll help with acne marks with continued use. It’s a nice product to have in my routine. I haven’t had any issues using it. No redness, itchiness, or burning. The stinging sensation has diminished over time too. My skin is getting used to it real fast. Now on to my experience with benzoyl peroxide…

I decided to use benzoyl peroxide last minute (at the end of the week). It’s because I didn’t see much results with glycolic acid acne-wise. I know it’s only been 2 weeks, but that’s more than enough time for me to see if it works for my acne or not. I just don’t think it’s working. I noticed inflamed acne popping up, and it looks like it’s going to get worse if I didn’t do anything about it. Glycolic acid alone just isn’t going to cut it. At least for the products I was using. I’m using benzoyl peroxide now. I didn’t expect to use it again, but here I am, using it again, haha. Let’s see if it works this time around. It has worked plenty of times before. I just ended up venturing out to other ingredients/products to help with my acne. I guess, to no avail. Here’s my experience using benzoyl peroxide for the first time again.

So before applying benzoyl peroxide to my skin, I applied my moisturizer (La Roche Posay Toleriane Double Repair Matte Face Moisturizer for Oily Skin) first. I might re-add Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence to increase moisture in my skin. I removed it because I didn’t need it anymore. But, more moisture right now wouldn’t be a bad thing while using benzoyl peroxide. Moisturizing the skin helps to prevent skin dryness and any other skin irritations. After applying moisturizer, I applied benzoyl peroxide all over my face! I’m not using it as a spot treatment. Just not yet until my skin is clear. The results the next morning was pretty amazing. I noticed a decrease in sebum, clearer skin, less closed comedones, and my overall complexion just looked less inflamed. I had some inflamed pimples the night before. They have diminished in redness and in size. I also notice some clogged pores making an appearance. That didn’t bother me much. I’m trying to unclog my pores for a smoother feel anyways. My skin has been super clogged for a long time. I can feel this gross bumpy texture to my skin when I move my fingers over my skin. It doesn’t look bad visually, but I can feel it when I wash my face. That’s been bothering me a lot. Hopefully benzoyl peroxide works this time.

Here’s my current skin care routine + benzoyl peroxide added last minute. Stay tuned for my results next week. I’m constantly changing up my skin care routine and trying to figure out what works.

Products I’m Experimenting With…

Alpha Skin Care Intensive Renewal Serum:

I really like this glycolic acid serum. It’s a higher percentage (14%) and leaves my skin feeling soft, smooth, and exfoliated. My skin is tolerating it pretty well. When applied to the skin, it stings a little bit. That stinging sensation eventually disappears. I tried using it every day and didn’t have any issues using it every day. But, I don’t think it’s necessary to exfoliate the skin that much. I’m only using this serum once or twice a week whenever I feel like it. The higher percentage of glycolic acid has helped blemishes move up to the surface even faster than the glycolic acid toner. My skin looks brighter and so much smoother. I’m really liking what I’m seeing so far. Hopefully it’ll continue to make a difference in my skin.

Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV SPF 50+ PA++++ Clear:

I tried the Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV SPF 50+ PA++++ Clear this week. It was a last minute kind of thing. I haven’t let this product touch my face in ages. I still have a few bottles left, so I thought I would give it another try, lol. Hopefully it doesn’t clog my pores like last time. My skin care routine is pretty minimal right now so I’ll know if it’s breaking me out or not. The sunscreen felt really nice when applied to the skin. It’s lightweight, gel-like. It absorbs easily into the skin and leaves the skin feeling and looking matte. I didn’t experience a sheen on my skin like I used to. The sunscreen does soak up oils on the skin. I used a moisturizer before applying this sunscreen. From my past experience with this sunscreen, it doesn’t protect my skin well. I noticed some skin darkening when I used it. But, I’m not going to use it alone. I’ll use my usual, daily sunscreen on top. This is a good way to use up a sunscreen that I won’t purchase again. I kind of miss the gel texture. It feels amazing on my oily skin.

Altruist Sunscreen SPF 50:

I stopped using this sunscreen, but I started using it again. Since my routine is shorter, why not give it another chance? Also, I finished my first bottle of this sunscreen this week! It took forever! So this sunscreen is still moisturizing and leaves the skin looking greasy on the surface of the skin. It burns the eyes if any gets in there. I really do love how protective this sunscreen is. It has a high SPF and high UVA. I hope it doesn’t clog my pores, but we’ll see as I continue to use it. I bought quite a few. I don’t want to waste them.

My Acne Journey: 5 Months + 3 Weeks

Comment
CeraVe Moisturizing Cream

Hi everyone. 🙂 It’s been 5 months and 3 weeks on this acne journey. I can’t believe it’s been this long on this journey! I’m pushing forward each day!

So I took a 3 day break from my acne treatment this week. I tried to increase the dose and it all backfired, lol. In other words, I burned my face. During this break, I tried iUNIK Beta-Glucan Power Moisture Serum to hydrate and heal my skin. You can read about my experience by clicking on the link. From my experience with this product, I won’t be continuing on with it. It made my skin worse. It seems like my skin prefers a plain, bland, minimal skin care routine. I just went back to my normal daily skin care routine. On my rest days (if there’s any), I just leave my skin alone. I use nothing on my skin at night. By the end of the week, the breakouts shrunk in size. My skin felt less dry. I was very disappointed with the results I got from iUNIK. I’m never using it ever again. I can’t wait to finish it (on my body) and toss it out. I’m not sure how this product has positive reviews. It’s not worth the money. No wonder why I was breaking out so much back then. It was a combination of things plus this product and most likely other products.

After another week of using Olay Regenerist Hyaluronic + Peptide 24 Revitalizing Facial Cleanser. My skin doesn’t feel dry from using this facial cleanser anymore. My skin is finally used to it. But, I’m still on the look out for a new facial cleanser. Still.

I stopped using bha during the break, and I was using it 1-2 times a week, but I’ve bumped up my use of the product this week. I’m dealing with random blackheads popping up out of nowhere. I wonder if it has to do with my sunscreens. Some of them feel sticky, tacky, and overly moisturizing. My skin does not need that much moisture. Just enough. Reapplying sunscreen really leaves my skin feeling heavy sometimes. I’ll keep using bha and see what happens to my skin. Hopefully the blackheads are going to clear up. If not, I’ll have to find something else to get rid of these blackheads.

More products I tried this week!

Neutrogena Visibly Even Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30:

I still haven’t seen this product being sold anywhere. I still have 2 bottles of this sunscreen left. After I finished Vanicream Mineral Facial Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30, I started using Neutrogena Visibly Even Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30. I have to use them up so they won’t go to waste. I’m only using this sunscreen indoors. It’s not sweat or water-proof. My experience using this sunscreen wasn’t that good. I’ve used it for many years because it was the only sunscreen product that didn’t clog my pores, moisturized my skin, and brightened it. I guess it wasn’t too bad of a product. At least it didn’t clog my pores and made my complexion more even. It contains glycine soja (soybean) seed extract to help fade acne marks and brighten the skin. I’m glad I found other sunscreens that provide better protection without clogging my pores. I was pretty committed to this sunscreen. Well, once I finish the last bottles of this product, it’s done. I have no choice anyways. I think it’s been discontinued. There’s also fragrance in this product. I found it pretty irritating to the skin and eyes. By the way, this is a chemical sunscreen. Hell yes! It burned my eyes. I wonder how I put up with that for so many years.

Trader Joe’s Daily Facial Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40:

I finished my first bottle of Trader Joe’s Daily Facial Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 this week. The texture of the sunscreen felt very silky smooth. That’s one thing about the sunscreen that I really liked. It smoothed over my skin easily and blends into the skin very well. This sunscreen, unfortunately, burned my eyes. I can’t use it near my eyes or the skin around my eyes. I used a mineral-based sunscreen instead for the eye area when using Trader Joe’s SPF 40. It also clogged my pores once again. I noticed a few clogged pores on my chin and 2 cysts (haven’t had these in a while!) after a few days of using it. The sunscreen does contain shea butter. Perhaps that is the culprit. So, the texture and consistency of the sunscreen is very lovely. It moisturizes and smooths out the skin. It works as a makeup primer due to it smoothing the skin out. Since it breaks me out, I won’t purchase another bottle after finishing my last one. I’m not going to use the rest on my face but my body.

Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Face Lotion SPF 15:

I finished (couldn’t get the rest out of the bottle) this sunscreen in August (read more on my skin care empties). It’s November. I noticed that I still had this SPF sitting around unused because I couldn’t cut open the bottle. Yes, that’s what I do to get every last drop out. With Eucerin’s packaging, they make it difficult to get to every last drop. Finally, I was able to cut open the bottle with much difficulty. Look what’s at the bottom of the bottle? Tons of product leftover. Sheesh! This would’ve been a waste if I had just tossed the sunscreen out after the pump couldn’t dispense any product out. This is one of those products that I would never purchase again. They need to change the packaging of the product. It sucks. It infuriates me knowing that products like this exist. Terrible product.

Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Face Cream & CeraVe Moisturizing Cream:

I stopped using Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Face Cream on my face a while ago. I’ve been trying to use it up and using it as an eye cream. My facial skin didn’t like the cream, but the skin around my eyes seems to love it. The cream is fragrance-free, non-irritating, and blends into the skin effortlessly. It smooths out the eye area too. I love it! I might bring it back into my skin care routine as an eye cream (not a face cream). Another product I attempted to use as an eye cream is the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. With this cream, it didn’t work out. The cream wouldn’t blend into my skin. I just didn’t like the way it felt on my eyes. It didn’t leave my skin feeling moisturized like the Eucerin cream. CeraVe seems to work better on body. It doesn’t leave a sticky residue behind and absorbs into the skin pretty quick. On my eyes, it’s another story.

What else am I doing??

I’ve been eating pretty healthy. You can check out on my update on my health goals right here. I’ve increased my intake of vegetables after that update, haha. I’ve seen an improvement in my skin too. I’ve had less breakouts and skin just looks so much better. So it’s not just skin care I’m doing. I don’t even use that many skin care products on my face anyways. I think it’s pretty ridiculous to just rely on skin care to have healthy skin. Skin health also comes from within. I’m happy to be back on track! Also, I stopped wearing face makeup most days of the week. I didn’t see the purpose anymore. I just wanted to let my skin be. Just take care of it and not have too many makeup products on it. It’s nice to see a makeupless face.

The Ordinary Ascorbic Acid Powder

I’m nearing 5 months on this journey soon!! My skin officially cleared up after 4 months. I’m just in maintenance mode now. All I’m doing is the basics. I’m glad I got rid of all of those excess amount of skin care products. Currently using them on my body. I have to use them up somehow. It’s still taking forever! 😭 But, lesson learned, I guess, lol. I feel like I should know this already since my skin thrives on a basic skin care routine plenty of times before. I guess it’s called a skin care addiction. 😂 Well, let’s check out what went on this week!

What’s new this week?

I stopped using a moisturizer in the morning. Yup, I don’t have a dedicated moisturizer for mornings anymore. I feel like I was using too many products even though it was just this single product. It just felt too much applying that moisturizer on my face in the morning, lol. I noticed more blackheads and sebaceous filaments when I started using a moisturizer in the morning too. It felt like a waste of product and money when I didn’t really need one for AM use. What’s the point of using a product when it’s not necessary? I have oily skin, and it just makes things worse. So I started using a more moisturizing sunscreen instead, so it’s more like a two-in-one deal. The product is La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-in Milk Face & Body Sunscreen Lotion SPF 100. I was using La Roche-Posay Anthelios Body & Face Mineral Sunscreen Gentle Lotion SPF 50, but it was too drying on my skin. I got really tired of the white cast and how drying it is. It’s my favorite sunscreen (right now) for touch-ups, but I want a sunscreen that’s more moisturizing. And that is, the La Roche-Posay SPF 100 since I still have it. Here’s my experience with this sunscreen this week!

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-in Milk Face & Body Sunscreen Lotion SPF 100:

I chose this sunscreen because I remember it being moisturizing. I can just skip moisturizer and go straight to using sunscreen in the morning. This helps to cut down my morning routine too. I’m only using a single product on my face. It makes things even simpler. So this sunscreen is very moisturizing on the skin. It feels lightweight without any other products underneath (serums, essences, moisturizers, creams, gels). It made my skin appear a little greasy, but that didn’t bother me too much. It sat comfortably on my skin. I liked that it didn’t dry my skin out. I needed the moisture. But, with this sunscreen, I can’t use it near my eyes. Yes, it burns like hell. It must be the smell of this sunscreen. It has a strong sunscreen/chemical smell to it. Yuck! Not a fan. But even with the negatives, I’ll still use it until I find something else that’s better. It moisturizes my skin and protects my skin. That’s what matters most to me. It hasn’t irritated my facial skin. It works for what it is.

Here’s my experience with some other sunscreens I’m trying to finish up. 👇🏻

Vanicream Mineral Facial Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30:

This sunscreen feels very soft and soothing when applied to the skin. It rubs in nicely and doesn’t leave residue behind. I didn’t notice a white cast this time either. With this sunscreen, it never sets on the skin. It sits on top of the skin. It leaves my skin shiner and greasier. Since it’s only SPF 30, I’m using it as an indoor sunscreen. I prefer to stick to SPF 50+ sunscreens for everyday/outdoors. It works very well as a moisturizer. It saved my dry skin when it was cracking and peeling. Works well on sensitive skin. It contains ceramides, and I really do love my ceramides. 🥰 Keeps my moisture barrier happy. This moisturizer with sunscreen is actually even more moisturizing compared to the Vanicream Daily Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin, in my opinion. It leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth after I rinse it off for the day. So it helps to improve the quality of the skin. I didn’t notice any breakouts after using it this time. Keep in mind that I didn’t use any other products underneath the sunscreen. I feel that this sunscreen has some good qualities, but I don’t like the way it leaves my skin looking shiny and greasy. Plus, it’s only SPF 30. I need a higher SPF for my skin type.

Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV SPF 50+ PA++++ (Clear):

I tried this sunscreen again. I still have a few bottles of it left to finish. Applying this sunscreen to the skin was nice and soothing at first. But after it absorbs into the skin, it leaves the skin feeling dry and super tight. It felt like my skin was going crack. I couldn’t move my face. Yes, it absorbs quickly. Yes, it feels lightweight on the skin rather than thick and heavy. But, I’d much prefer a sunscreen that’s thick and heavy than a drying one. My face hurts using it. Reapplying was not fun. By the third application with this sunscreen, my eyes started to burn and the sunscreen pilled near my hairline. So the only way I’ll be able to finish this sunscreen is if I use it with another sunscreen that’s moisturizing. I’ve been using it with Vanicream Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30. Not mixed together, but I layer them. Vanicream helps to lessen the dryness. I only use Canmake when I’m indoors. It didn’t work for me at all. I tanned, burned, and freckled using it outdoors (including reapplying). This sunscreen is so overhyped. It didn’t protect my skin at all. Thinking about it pisses me off, lol.

When I can’t use a sunscreen near my eyes (La Roche-Posay SPF 100!), I use another sunscreen that I still have (trying to finish it). It’s the Neutrogena Sheer Zinc Face Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50. This sunscreen doesn’t burn my eyes, so it works for the eye area. I can’t use it on my face due to it clogging my pores.

I love how my morning routine just consists of sunscreen. 🙃 It’s so simple. 👌🏻 I don’t need extra products. My skin’s good. ✅

New Products??

I thought I wasn’t going to add any skin care products, but I decided to add vitamin c powder. I know, I know, lol. I said I wasn’t going to, haha. I needed an affordable, easy-to-use antioxidant in my routine. Using vitamin c went well this week. No orange 🍊 face. I woke up to a brighter and more even-toned complexion. By the way, I only use it at night. I don’t use anything else on my skin besides sunscreen in the morning. It’s too extra for me. Also, I haven’t worn makeup for a few weeks now. I started wearing makeup then stopped. Might pick it up back up again whenever.

That’s what I did this week. I really didn’t think I would ever use vitamin c again. But, knowing me, I love trying out previous/new products out. 🤷🏻‍♀️ See everyone next week! I can’t wait!

Update on Benton Fermentation Essence & The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA & Melano CC Vitamin C Essence

Comment
Benton Fermentation Essence

It took me a while to stop using these products. I’ve been using them for a while and didn’t want to give them up out of familiarity. But, I think it’s time to pull the plug. Even though I love skin care products, I wondered if any of them are even working on my skin. I feel like I’m just flushing money down the drain sometimes. I decided to stop using these products. Read on to find out why. I stopped using these products the other day too. 👈🏻

Benton Fermentation Essence:

I’ve been using this product for over a year now. I really liked this essence. It’s lightweight, easily absorbed into the skin, and feels silky smooth on the skin. The only thing I really liked about this essence is how it feels on my skin. Other than that, it hasn’t done much for my skin. It contains Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate, Bifida Ferment Lysate, Ceramide NP, Aloe Extract, Betaine, Panthenol, Sodium Hyaluronate, and other skin care ingredients that are good for the skin. The ingredients look very nice, but I didn’t see much of a difference in my skin using it. It didn’t help boost skin’s elasticity and moisture levels (as it claims to do). It gives the the skin lightweight hydration, but that hydration doesn’t last long. Only when applied to the skin. This essence just vanishes into the skin and didn’t improve my skin over time. It just felt like putting expensive water on my face. It actually feels like I’m applying just water to my face. This essence when dispensed, shoots out straight liquid. Make sure to dispense it into the palm or it’ll get everywhere. This was one of my favorite essences for some time, but I didn’t see any good results with continued use. As I mentioned earlier, I just like the way it feels on my skin. But, I don’t think it’s worth it to keep it around for that reason.

The Ordinary Matrixyl 10% + HA

The Ordinary Matrixyl 10%:

Here goes another The Ordinary product that I’m removing from my skin care routine! Here are some others that I removed recently:

The Ordinary Argireline Solution 10%

The Ordinary Ascorbic Acid 8% Alpha Arbutin 2%

The Ordinary Resveratrol 3% Ferulic Acid 3%

Now it’s The Ordinary Matrixyl 10%. So this is a thicker serum. The texture of the serum is gel-like. When applied to the skin, I don’t like how it feels on my skin, but the serum absorbs into the skin pretty well. It doesn’t leave any sticky residue behind once it sinks into the skin. I was able to use it twice a day without any issues like pilling or stickiness. The serum is supposed to help with signs of aging, such as fine lines. It contains Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38, and Sodium Hyaluronate. This is another skin care product with beneficial skin care ingredients, but from my experience using this product, I didn’t notice any changes in fine lines including other wrinkles (as it claims). I don’t think it did anything for my skin. I’ve gone through several bottles of this serum. I kept using it because I was just hoping for the best. I really liked the ingredients in this serum too. It seems so promising. But, I think it’s time to remove it from my routine and see what happens. I don’t want to keep using a product that does absolutely nothing just because. I just haven’t seen any results using it.

Rhoto Melano CC Vitamin C Essence

Melano CC Vitamin C Essence:

I was going to keep Melano CC Vitamin C Essence in my routine, but I decided to remove it. This essence did help to brighten the overall complexion of my skin (subtly, nothing major), but it didn’t help with acne marks or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. I still noticed acne marks on my face while using this vitamin c essence, and I’ve been using it for years too. It should’ve done something by now, but I have seen zero changes in my acne marks. With the Melano CC Vitamin C Essence, I wasn’t impressed with the overall results. It’s OK. Nothing amazing. What’s great about this product is the packaging. It’s sealed and easy to travel with. I can bring it with me wherever I go easily without spilling the contents. But, since this essence hasn’t done much for my skin over the years, I’m just using it because I have it, and it’s much better compared to other vitamin c serums that I’ve tried in terms of texture. It’s lightweight, oily but not too oily, and absorbs into the skin decently. After seeing very little benefits from this product, I think it’s time to move on from it. It’s time to let go, lol. Instead of keeping the Melano CC Vitamin C Essence around, I decided to swap it out with another vitamin c product. It’s the vitamin c powder. A vitamin c powder contains only one ingredient while the Melano CC Vitamin C Essence has a lot more ingredients (compared to a vitamin c powder). I wanted to keep things simple. Also, vitamin c powder is more affordable too. I’ve been using vitamin c powder, and it’s been working just fine.

Rhoto Melano CC Vitamin C Essence

It’s been a little over a 1 month using Melano CC Vitamin C Essence. I finished another tube of the product just recently. Honestly, it was pretty satisfying since it seemed to last forever. haha. I just wanted to be done with it and start a new tube! 😀 Now here I am with a new tube! All fresh and new! Cheers! So after finishing a tube of this essence after 1 month, here are my results!

You know, I’m growing to like this essence. It’s not too bad. It’s lightweight. Absorbs into the skin well. Doesn’t pill. It works well with my other skin care products. It’s affordable and one tube lasts for a long time. The packaging of this product is very secure too. It prevents the vitamin c in this product from oxidizing. It’s also portable. I can take it with me while travelling easily, and I know that it’s not going to leak or spill everywhere. And most of all, I haven’t had any breakouts from it. It works with my skin type! Woohoo! I’m very excited for that! I’ve been searching for a vitamin c serum or essence that works on my skin without causing any issues. It doesn’t irritate my skin either. This vitamin c essence seems to be it. So it’s been great and all so far. But did it work to help fade acne marks, dark spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation?? Make my complexion more even and brighter?? Well…

Unfortunately, I haven’t noticed lightening of acne marks, dark spots, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. I have noticed a more even and brighter complexion. I’m not sure if it’s from the Melano CC Vitamin C Essence. I’m also using other skin care products that contain vitamin c, niacinamide, and arbutin, which are really good at fading dark pigmentation on the skin. I think a combination of skin care products that I have been using has helped so far. But, I don’t think this essence alone will do the job. I love that it works on my skin, but as far as effectiveness go, it’s an alright product. It’s not as good as people make it out to be. I honestly thought it would be a life changing skin care product. I was expecting a lot more from it that’s all. BUT! I will continue to use it since it hasn’t cause any breakouts or other skin problems. I’ll keep using it for its antioxidant effects. I like vitamin c products and this essence doesn’t cost that much either. We’ll see what happens as I keep using it. Stay tuned for a new update soon. 🙂
